“You Can’t Take It With You” by George Kaufman and Moss Hart, comes to life this Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Watertown High School auditorium. The shows are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and will be sold at the door.

Joining the WHS theater department as this year’s director is Kacie Kirkpatrick. While it may be her first time directing a show at the high school, she’s no stranger to the theater and adds a fresh touch this show.

“It’s super rewarding to work with really creative and passionate students,” she said. “Seeing people come together and have a lot of team work is inspiring”

In this 1963 comedy, the actors find their characters in outrageous situations because of their families’ unusual taste in pastimes.

“I think anyone who loves a good laugh would love seeing this show,” said Ms. Kirkpatrick.

The play revolves around the Sycamore family, a zany bunch whose hobbies and views of life are even wackier than they are. When their practical daughter Alice announces she’ll be bringing home Anthony Kirby, the vice president of her company and potential husband-to-be, they try to clean up their act and hilarity ensues.

“I think my favorite part of the show has to be how they really do try to be normal for their daughter’s sake, but they just can’t, no matter how hard they try,” said WHS student Sarah Vail, who plays Penny. “Normal’s just not in their vocabulary.”

This show is different from a lot of productions that the school has done in the last few years, and all are encouraged to come see this family-friendly comedy.
