After almost five years of not releasing solo music, Selena Gomez finally released her new album titled, “Rare.”

She began her comeback with her two singles “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look at Her Now,” both songs that reflect on her road to self love, a pattern that continues throughout the rest of the album, mainly present in the song “Dance Again,” which is about how she has healed from the past and can finally “dance again.”

While this album may not be anything new in music, the way Gomez was able to make a positive from all of the negatives in her life is refreshing.

Similarly, many of the songs on the album are about her exes and how her relationships have left her.

“Vulnerable” is a song in which she is able to be, obviously, vulnerable and let her guard down, whereas “People You Know” highlights how people grow apart and the pain that goes along with it. Songs such as “Cut You Off” and “Kinda Crazy” also fall into this category.

On the other hand, there are several songs where she takes a more “fun” approach to things, which include “Rare,” “Fun,” “Ring,” and “Let Me Get Me.”

Lastly, Gomez included two collabs on this album which demonstrate a sort of different style for her, with “Crowded Room” ft. 6LACK and “A Sweeter Place” ft. Kid Cudi.

While this album may not be anything new in music, the way Gomez was able to make a positive from all of the negatives in her life is refreshing. The music is truly fantastic and it is evident how much hard work and emotion went into the making of this album. Selena herself even claims, “It’s the most honest music I’ve ever made.”

The only critique is that the album does lack variety and is similar to her previous works, but it seems to be working for her so there is not much of a problem.

In conclusion, Selena Gomez has proved her talent once again with “Rare” and is truly taking the world by storm. It is safe to say that 2020 will be Selena’s year and she will only do bigger and better things.

Top Picks: “Rare,” “Lose You To Love Me,” “Dance Again,” and “Ring”.
