Carlos Durazo is “Chasing the American Dream, like many immigrants”

Carolina Pesqueira, Raider Times staff

Carlos Durazo is an immigrant from a small town, Hermosillo, Sonora, in the north of Mexico. He studied industrial engineering, but is now corporate chef of Besito Mexican, and is in charge of overseeing the local restaurants in Chestnut Hill and Burlington.

Carlos has been happily married with his wife for 10 years and is father of a 12-year-old named Valeria. He explained why he moved from Mexico.

“At that time there was no jobs in Mexico and I had a friend who invited me to live with him,” he said.

He took the opportunity of something better and moved to Massachusetts with his friend to start working as a dishwasher. Things weren’t easy at the beginning, working Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and doing extra work, sometimes with no pay.

After eight years, now he is the boss. Whenever Carlos has time off, which are mostly Sundays, he makes an effort to spend the most time possible with his family.

When asked the method to succeed, he answered, “Always have a goal, never lose focus on what you want, even if there are many obstacles on the way, always take the opportunity.”

Even though Carlos has come along way, he isn’t done yet. He still wants to someday get a business of his own, “Chasing the American Dream, like many immigrants.”
