Fairly new writer Caillie Hughes decided to take up journalism not just for the credit but to see what it’s like to be on the other side of the article. This aspiring country-pop singer has already been featured in a newspaper for her incredible musical talents. Caillie has taught herself to play the guitar, drums, and piano. She has even written an entire Christmas album and is currently working on a full-length album to hopefully release onto Itunes soon. With a father who is a musician at her aid, she will surely have no problems doing so.
Caillie plans on writing mainly opinion pieces on topics, such as sports and music. She finds it will “liven up the paper and get more people reading it.” When asked who her favorite songwriter is, Caillie, without hesitation, turned to another country-pop singer, Taylor Swift. Caillie loves her music and feels as if she became a better person by listening to Swift’s songs because they “just make you realize that you shouldn’t be Mean (referring to Swift’s song by the title) because it could impact someone greatly.”
However surprisingly, Caillie wouldn’t define harsh criticism as being mean because she feels that “it is a main source of inspiration because without it we wouldn’t try to get better.” Readers might ask, “Where does someone get such a great attitude towards criticism?” Well, Caillie states that “it is all thanks to
acting and going on casting auditions.” Doing so taught her not to take criticism too personally and that most of the time “it’s constructive and for your own good.”
You don’t see too many sixteen-year-olds with that kind of positive thinking. So be on the look out for her work in this year’s school newspaper.
