The Race for the Raider Cup
A race for The Raider Cup is currently in effect as of Fall 2012. The school is participating in a race of the grades (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors). The goal is that each student help his class gain as many points as possible for the competition. The team with the most points by the end of the year will receive the cup along with other prizes.
The “respect” and “achievement” in the school motto REACH are the bases for the ways each class can earn points. For “respect,” each quarter the grade with the fewest disciplinary referrals earn points. The first place class earns 40 points, second place earns 20 points, third place earns 10 points, and last place earns zero points.
For “achievement,” the class with the best attendance and grades earns points. For highest attendance rates, fewest people being late, and highest grades and highest percent of students on the Honor Roll, the class in first place earns 40 points, the class in second place earns 20 points, the class in third place earns 10 points and fourth place earns zero points.
There will also be a category called “honor”. It basically is that each month there will be a school event that is specifically designated as a Raider Cup event. It will be based on of the highest amount of people that show up for each class. The class with the most people will earn 40 points. The class with the second most people will earn 20 points. The class with the third most people will earn 10 points. Lastly, the class with the least amount will earn zero points.
Another big point earner for each class happens once a month when there will be a day designated as a Raider Cup Color Day. On this day students who wear red, black, and white will earn one point for their class. They also could wear their WHS REACH T-Shirts which will earn 5 points for their class. On top of the points students earn for their clothes, the class with the most people wearing either the REACH T-Shirt or the various colors will earn 40 points. The class in second wins 20 points for their class. The third place winners will win 10 points, and the last place winners win zero points.
Along with that, each month the teachers and other faculty of WHS have the opportunity to nominate one student whom they believe has shown one or more of the school’s core values (Respect, Empowerment, Achievement, Creativity, Honor). A nomination allows the student to earn five points toward their class. They will also be given a certificate at the school’s quarterly Honor Roll assembly. The goal of this particular event is to recognize students who put others first by performing a core value.
At the conclusion of the competition, the winners will receive with the Raider Cup with their class year engraved on its plaque as it displayed in the main lobby. The winning class will have the opportunity to select the next quotation to be engraved in the main lobby. And lastly they will receive a class barbeque at the end of the year. Many great prizes, but only one class will win, so try hard WHS.
