Tournament update: Doubleheader Wednesday; WHS hockey to play in sectional final

The Watertown High student cheering section will have a busy night Wednesday,, March 4, as the girls’ hockey team plays at 6 p.m. in Woburn and the girls’ basketball team plays at 8 p.m. in Malden.

The Watertown High student cheering section is keeping busy.

On Tuesday, March 3, Tyler Gardiner scored two goals as the Watertown High boys’ hockey team defeated Wayland, 4-1, in the Division 3 North semifinals.

On Wednesday, March 4, the fourth-seeded Watertown/Belmont girls’ team (19-3-1) will play its Division 1 state quarterfinal game against No. 5 Austin Prep (16-3-2). The game at Woburn will start at 6 p.m.

A short time later at Mystic Valley Charter School Gym in Malden, the Raiders’ girls’ basketball team (19-0) will play  No. 5 Belmont (16-6). Opening tip is 8 p.m.

The WHS boys’ hockey team (13-3-7) returns to action Friday, March 6, when they will play No. 8 Bedford (13-6-3) for the Division 3 North title. Puck drop is 6:30 at the Chelmsford Forum in Billerica.
