“Poster boy” Steve Harrington gets 400th win as Watertown advances in boys’ basketball tourney

Raiders to play host to Hamilton-Wenham in MIAA Division 3 North quarterfinals Sunday at 3 p.m.

Coach Steve Harrington earned his 400th coaching victory as Watertown High shook off Saugus, 56-45, in the first round of the MIAA Division 3 North boys’ basketball tournament on Feb. 25, 2020, at Watertown High School.

WHS fans came prepared and were waving oversized posters of the coach, who has led the school to three state titles.

With the win, the fourth-seeded Raiders (16-5) advanced to the quarterfinals and earned another home game. Watertown will play host to fifth-seeded Hamilton-Wenham (14-7) on Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m.

Saugus, seeded 13th in MIAA Division 3 North, packed the visiting section of the stands with an all-red cheering section. The Sachems finished the season 9-12.
