Movie screening the latest fund-raiser for Armenian Club
“Lost & Found in Armenia” to be shown Sunday, Nov. 17, at Watertown High School
November 14, 2013
The Armenian Club at Watertown High School has been active this year planning several fund-raising activities to once again sponsor doctors and medical supplies to be sent to remote Armenian villages.
Last year, the Armenian Club was able to raise enough money to pay for doctors to visit a village and see every single villager, prescribe medications, and conduct both physical and mental examinations, as well as make use of portable X-ray machines and lab equipment.
If the club can raise more money this year, it will be able to sponsor doctors for two villages.
The club appreciates everyone’s support of bake sales and are asking for your continued support throughout the year.
For a different type of fund-raiser, the Armenian Club will be showing the movie, “Lost & Found in Armenia,” on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m. in the WHS Lecture Hall. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door.
The film is a wacky comedy and is rated PG-13. It is about a US Senator’s son who tries to forget the breakup of his fiancée. He is talked into going on vacation in Turkey by his best friends. A parasailing trip accident lands him in a small village in Armenia, where he is accused of being a spy. He meets a young woman, who helps him to escape from the problems he finds himself in.
The English parts of the movie have Armenian subtitles, and the Armenian parts have English subtitles.
Other plans for the year include hosting guest speakers for the 10th-gradee English classes to speak about the Armenian Genocide. The club also stages many awareness-raising activities during the month of April about the Armenian Genocide, and it also participates in the school’s SPEAK week activities.
Once again, the Armenian Club is donating a Thanksgiving basket and will support other community projects.
Currently, the club has 25 members, and Siran Tamakian is the club advisor, and Mrs. Sullivan helps out with many of the activities.
(Note: Marianna Janikian and Arpine Israelyan are co-presidents of the Armenian Club.)
