Nearing the halfway point of the season, the Watertown High girls basketball team just refuses to cool off.

The Raiders have outscored their opponents by an average of nearly 17 points in jumping out to a blazing 8-0 start, taking a strong hold on first place in the Middlesex League Freedom Division.

The Raiders won their latest game Friday night as Katelyn Rourke posted a double-double to lead Watertown to a romp over Stoneham, 54-19.

The junior forward had 13 points and 14 rebounds against the Spartans, this coming after contributing 14 points and seven rebounds Tuesday in a 50-40 win over Burlington.

Rourke’s 13 points were tied for a game high with sophomore center Shannon Murphy (13 points, 8 rebounds).

Senior Gianna Coppola (9 points) and junior Nicole Lanzo (7 points) also chipped in on offense, as the Raiders rolled from start to finish.

The Raiders were again dominant defensively, limiting the Spartans to only 5 points in the entire second half, and just a lone point in the fourth quarter to remain undefeated.

The Raiders (8-0) sit at the top of the Middlesex League Freedom Division, way ahead of second-place Wakefield. Watertown will next take on last-place Wilmington on the road, on Jan. 13.
