A double-double by junior Katelyn Rourke (14 points, 10 rebounds) was more than enough for the Watertown girls’ basketball team to continue its undefeated season with a 60-37 victory over Middlesex Freedom rival Burlington on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The Raiders continued where they left off with the stellar defense, allowing under 40 points in each of the last three games. Junior Felicia Korte (7 points, 3 blocks) and counterpart Ama Asamoah (8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks) led their respective teams in the first quarter.

Rourke took over for the Raiders in the second, adding 5 rebounds and 8 points to her totals while coming out with a huge steal and assist to sophomore Shannon Murphy (13 points, 6 assists, 8 blocks) for the layup near the end of the half.

Burlington senior Ariana Rivera (7 points) helped the Red Devils keep the game competitive with her showing in the second, but the Raiders went into the half with a 16-point lead.

Two 3-pointers by senior Gianna Coppola (9 points, 5 assists) and Murphy dominating underneath helped the Raiders extend their lead to 48-27.

With Watertown hitting their shots and dominating the boards, the game was well in hand in the fourth.  Junior Lily Pennington, on assists from Coppola, was able to put home two layups.

Next, the Raiders take on the Stoneham Spartans on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Stoneham High School in an attempt to extend their season-long winning streak.
